“My love, are you the one who’s killing me?” – Deceased cop last words to wife
POLICE officer, Mogokolodi Cleopass Digama (53), had three bullets pumped on his forehead by his wife in a cold-blooded murder to pave way for an unhindered extra-marital affair with her boyfriend.
The wife, Tubake Sister Maesela (44), was in a relationship with Mmamoraba Jacob Mashiba (41) who fathered one of her children, and who was also deeply involved in the planning of the murder.
The chilling evidence was heard in the Polokwane High Court in Limpopo where the wife and her boyfriend were both recently sentenced to life imprisonment for murder plus a combined eight years each for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The court was told that there were also prior attempts – which failed – to poison the husband who was a warrant officer stationed at Apel police station in the Sekhukhune district in Limpopo. However, the wife and her boyfriend continued to plan.
The evil plan came to fruition on 17 June 2021 when the husband was at his Somalian friend’s tuckshop at Lerajane village in the Sekhukhune district in Limpopo.
This was where three bullets were pumped on his forehead at close range before he pleaded to his wife: “My love, are you the one who’s killing me?”
His service pistol was taken and the vehicle was later found burnt.
In aggravation of sentence, State prosecutor, Adv Lerato Mohlaka, described the act as senseless, premeditated and brutal: “The accused did not take into consideration that the deceased had a right to life,” she said.
She submitted that the accused showed no remorse in that they tried to conceal the crime by visiting a traditional healer for “cleansing”. They also attempted to bribe state witnesses by more than R46 000.
Limpopo director of public prosecutions, Adv Ivy Thenga, commended police investigators and the prosecutor in ensuring the successful prosecution and conviction of the perpetrators.
