Polokwane municipality launches new road projects: “This is part of our ward-based planning which ensures that as we distribute our resources, every ward is touched.”
POLOKWANE municipality in Limpopo is set to launch new road projects in various clusters to enhance connectivity among communities.
At the inauguration of the first of such projects in the Molepo/Chuene/Maja cluster, executive mayor, John Mpe, again emphasised the importance of proper roads in the development of the economy.
“Polokwane municipality is the only municipality in Limpopo that is constructing roads in every cluster – on average in every [municipal] ward. This is part of our ward-based planning which ensures that as we distribute our resources, every ward is touched,” Mpe said.
He told community members that some of the roads within the wards may not necessarily need asphalt, but will be paved as it was also cheaper to maintain.
He again spoke of the district roads which are the assets of Road Agency Limpopo (RAL), and which the municipality was striving they be transferred to it.
Many of the district roads pass through communal lands and are in dilapidated state, with communities complaining to the municipality.
The other road to be constructed in Molepo/Chuene/Maja cluster will connect the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) in Boyne to ease congestion on major routes.
Mpe said other road projects in various clusters will be announced during visits to those areas.
