INVESTMENT| UAE shows interest in agriculture, mining and infrastructure development in Limpopo
UNITED Arab Emirates (UAE) ambassador to South Africa, Mahash Alhameli, visited Limpopo and expressed his country’s interest to invest in the province.
His visit in the province followed previous meetings held in Johannesburg and Pretoria with the Limpopo delegation to explore UAE’s investment opportunities in the province.
“We know Limpopo is rich in areas that we can invest. We discussed a number of areas of interest especially in food security, mining and infrastructure development. We are impressed with what we have seen. We also discussed investing in the airport;” Alhameli said.
The UAE potential investment augur well with the Limpopo government’s efforts to increase its own revenue which currently stands at 2,2%. The rest of the funds which constitute the provincial budget are national transfers.
Treasury MEC, Seaparo Sekoati, said he hoped the interest shown by UAE was the beginning of more investment that will flow from that country.
“We hope to see more of the UAE interest into the province. This was the opportunity to expose them to investment opportunities that are here and indeed we have exposed them to the two SEZs (Spatial Economic Zones), the airport logistics hub and agricultural opportunities
“We believe that when they go back, they will be able to reflect and take it from there,” Sekoati said.
