Facelift for Seshego stadium in Polokwane to meet PSL standard
SESHEGO Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo, is to be upgraded to meet PSL standard in a continuous bid by the municipality to boost sport tourism in the region.
It is expected that the upgrading of the stadium will attract more matches to the region. The project will start in the next financial year.
Already, the New Peter Mokaba Stadium would have hosted 50 matches, including cup clashes, by the end of the current season.
The upgrading is part of a broader plan by the municipality to give a facelift to sporting facilities in the city and expediting the construction of others in rural areas.
Other facilities to get a facelift include tennis courts and swimming pools.
The construction of the International Softball Stadium is expected to resume after a new contractor is appointed, and will be co-funded with the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. A contractor for the construction of Mankweng Stadium has already been appointed.
Executive mayor, John Mpe, said: “The city aspires to be the sporting capital of the province and tourism hub of the country.”
