Nehawu cries foul over hiring process in Limpopo premier’s office
NATIONAL Education Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) branch in Limpopo has demanded that the filling of vacant posts currently underway in the premier’s office be halted because it’s “flawed and smells of corruption”.
In a letter addressed to Premier Chupu Mathabatha on Monday and copied to provincial director general, Nape Nchabeleng, Nehawu branch secretary, Ndivhuwo Madzusa highlighted that the union was invited to be part of the recruitment and selection process.
“As the recruitment and selection process was underway Nehawu was shocked to learn that more than 20 applications of highly qualified applicants were missing and there was no valid explanation provided for such anomaly …” Madzusa wrote.
He levelled accusation against the premier and director general that since being at the helm of the current administration, applications of “highly qualified people were deliberately thrown away to pave way for weaker and preferred candidates by your good selves, and therefore the current situation cannot thus occur from without.”
He also said there were attempts to place certain individuals as permanent staff members and for some to be appointed in lucrative posts before the end of political mandate of the current administration.
“It is therefore Nehawu’s view that the entire recruitment process is flawed, smelling of corruption and should not be continued with henceforth,” Madzusa said.
The director general, in a letter to Nehawu, has indicated that the allegations were serious and “will look into the matter and get back to you as soon as possible”.
Provincial government spokesperson, Ndavhe Ramakuela, confirmed Nehawu’s letter and the director general’s response to the union.
