Mother who allegedly cut her disabled son’s head off remains in custody
A Limpopo mother who killed her 18-year old wheelchair-bound son by cutting off his head will remain in custody until next week for formal bail application in the Polokwane magistrate court.
Stephina Sefekwane Chuene (48) was arrested last Friday after police were alerted of a body lying in a wheelchair and a cut-off head on the ground near a tavern at Leshikishiki village in Lebowakgomo.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, said then that shockingly there were no people on the scene when police officers arrived.
He said investigations were activated and the deceased’s mother was located.
“She was positively linked to the murder of her own son and they immediately arrested her,” Mashaba said.
Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, described the incident as “heart breaking” and “horrendous” which affected the community and the SA Police Service family.
The mother made her first appearance in court on Monday, and again on Tuesday. She will return on 16 May 2024 for bail application.
