Polokwane municipality finds a “twin” in Russia
POLOKWANE municipality in Limpopo has signed a twinning agreement with the city of Mendeleevsk in the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia.
The agreement was signed during the recently concluded International Forum of Brics+ Cities held In Kazan, Russia. It is aimed at strengthening relations between the two cities on various fields including tourism.
A statement released after the signing of the agreement read: “The agreement establishes sister city relations between Polokwane, South Africa, and Mendeleevsk, Russia.
“The primary goal is to strengthen mutual understanding and relations between the peoples of the two cities. Both parties recognise the mutual benefits of deepening and expanding their cooperation in various fields.”
Other key aspects of the agreement include promoting innovation and exchange which encourage trade, economic, scientific, cultural, sports and tourism development. Both cities will support the exchange of delegations and business entities to strengthen the connections.
Other aspects will see joint projects being implemented.
