Limpopo attorney arrested for allegedly aiding suspect to escape from lawful custody
A Limpopo attorney has been arrested for allegedly aiding a suspect to escape from lawful custody in Giyani on Thursday.
Provincial Hawks spokesperson, Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa, said a suspect aged 35 had just appeared in the Giyani magistrate court on a charge of theft of motor vehicle.
After his appearance, the Hawks served him with a warrant of arrest for another case relating to the theft of motor vehicle.
“He was handcuffed, and while police officials were busy with the arrangements to take the suspect to police station, his attorney took him to his vehicle and drove away at high speed. Police gave chase, but to no avail.
“The attorney later drove to Giyani police station with the suspect, who was still restrained with the police handcuffs,” Mmuroa said.
The attorney and the suspect were both arrested and appeared in the Giyani magistrate court today (Friday).
