Man arrested after human remains discovered in a school’s pit toilet
LIMPOPO police on Thursday made a gruesome discovery of human remains in a pit toilet at a school in Ga-Riba village, Sekhukhune district.
A 45-year old man was later arrested and is expected to appear in the Praktiseer magistrate court on Monday.
The discovery of the human remains, which have not yet been identified, follows a tip-off to the police. Experts combed the school premises since Wednesday might until they made the discovery the following morning.
Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has called on the community to remain calm.
“I call upon all sectors of society to remain calm and give police space to unearth the motive behind this gruesome act. We will monitor the case very closely to ensure that the law takes its rightful course,” Hadebe said.
Limpopo education spokesperson, Matome Moremi, said the gruesome discovery was made at a time when learners were on a prior arranged school trip. He said learning and teaching has resumed and the school will host a sporting event today (Friday)
“It is regrettable that criminals find it possible and easy to come and bury the people they killed at schools. We condemn the act in the strongest possible terms,” Moremi said.
Meanwhile, A 60-year old farm owner and his 19 year-old employee have been arrested following the discovery of decomposed bodies of two women at a farm in Sebayeng outside Mankweng this week.
The two women – a South African and foreign nationals aged 45 and 19 years respectively – were found with gunshot wounds. A 19-year old man foreign man was also shot and hospitalised.
The arrested men are expected to appear in the Mankweng magistrate court today [Friday] facing two counts of murder, and attempted murder.
