Thabazimbi ANC strongman suspended for “self-motivated agenda and decisions” that brought the party into disrepute
ANC strongman in Thabazimbi, Limpopo, and once illegally –appointed council speaker, Tshegofatso Ramoabi, has been suspended pending disciplinary action for bringing the party into disrepute.
The suspension and pending disciplinary action follows his defiance of the party’s directives, disruptive behaviour and having frivolous and indistinct engagement with the opposition.
In a letter signed by ANC Limpopo secretary, Rueben Madadzhe, it was pointed out to him that he failed to furnish sound reasons of why he should not be suspended from the party.
“…resulting from your recent activities of defying the organisation and originating from your position that you hold as a member of the organisation (ANC councillor at Thabazimbi Local Municipality), wherein you disparaged the organisation and brought the name of the organisation into absolute disrepute.”
It was also pointed out to him about the “self-motivated agenda and decisions” he made on certain dates that were contrary to the organisation.
The charges will also include dereliction of duty and chastisement of members of the party by using position and privilege to attack the organisation.
Madadzhe has confirmed the suspension.
The Thabazimbi political debacle dates back to when the ANC lost the majority rule in the 2021 local government elections. The municipality was then led by the DA-led coalition with Tokkie Swanepoel as the mayor and Butana Thlabadira as the speaker.
However, in a manoeuvre to claw back power, the ANC in Thabazimbi ousted Swanepoel and Thlabadira and replaced them with Judy Mohapi and Ramoabi. The move was later declared illegal by the Polokwane High Court, and confirmed by the Supreme Court of Appeal.
The ANC provincial executive council then issued a directive for all legal challenges to cease, but the local structure defied.
The last straw for the ANC PEC was when Ramoabi led a coalition with the EFF in a renewed manoeuvre to grab power, in defiance of the directive.
The Limpopo cabinet is still to decide whether to place the municipality under administration.
