Eleven murder cases in Limpopo since New Year’s Eve, commissioner orders arrest of remaining suspects
LIMPOPO police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has activated all investigating teams across the province to tack down remaining suspects involved in 11 separate murder incidents reported between New Year’s Eve up to Thursday, 2 January 2025.
Out of the 11 suspects, seven have already been arrested. The murder incidents were reported in the districts of Capricorn (3), Mopani (3), Waterberg (3) and Vhembe (2).
Hadebe said the majority of the incidents were believed to be related to domestic disputes.
“We have noted the murders we encountered since the 31st December 2024, and observed that majority of these cases are a result of domestic violence.
“Multi-disciplinary teams have been assigned and maximum resources mobilised to ensure that investigations are expedited to ultimately bring the remaining suspects to book in order to face the full might of the law,” Hadebe said.
Some of the incidents include the fatal stabbing of a 24-year old man by his 16-year old girlfriend at Phagameng township in Modimolle just after 5am on New Year’s Day.
The boyfriend apparently saw the girl speakin to a stranger and started assaulting her. She managed to flee, but was followed and assaulted again.
She then drew a knife from her bag and stabbed him. The boyfriend walked home, but succumbed to injuries on the street.
