Department embarks on drive to patch the strategic Elim-N1 D4 road in Limpopo
THE strategic D4 road in Limpopo that connects the economic hub of Elim with N1 in Makhado, and also serves as a short route to other towns such as Malamulele, is receiving much-needed maintenance work.
The dilapidated road was at some stage a nightmare to drive on due to potholes, and the now on-going work is part of a commitment made by public works, roads and infrastructure MEC, Ernest Rachoene, to augment the Dikgerekgere programme.
On Monday, Rachoene visited the working team patching the potholes to monitor progress. He was joined by mayors of Vhembe district and Makhado local municipalities, Freda Nkondo and Dorcus Mboyi, respectively.
His monitoring programme started last week at Lepelle Nkumpi municipality in the Capricorn district.
Speaking at the ceremony on Monday, Rachoene said the work will be implemented in phases to mitigate the budgetary challenges currently faced by Road Agency Limpopo.
“We will be going to other districts to reinforce capacity to ensure our roads continue to receive the attention they deserve for the benefit of the people of this province,” Rachoene said.
