Man hands himself over in connection with the murder of Limpopo police sergeant
A 43-year old man suspected of killing a Limpopo police sergeant handed himself on Thursday and was immediately placed under arrest to face a charge of murder.
The man, believed to be the boyfriend of the police sergeant, handed himself to the police at Klipgat in the North West province in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the development in the case: “I am confident that the investigation team will present a water tight case before the court of law to ensure that the suspect receives a harsher sentence for his senseless act.”
Initial reports indicated that the sergeant, Leah Mosalofi Malebye (47) attached to the Rooiberg police station in the Waterberg district, returned home on Saturday accompanied by her boyfriend.
Her lifeless body was discovered the next morning by her six-year old grandson. Both the boyfriend and her private vehicle were also missing.
However, her vehicle was later found abandoned along the Thabazimbi Road near Koedoesdorp, 50km away from her home.
The motive for the killing is yet to be established, but police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said domestic dispute has not been ruled out.
