Man linked to Ga-Chuene clinic attack and other serious crimes appeared in Polokwane court
MOLOTO Johannes Sathekge, a man accused of attacking and raping two nurses at Ga-Chuene clinic in Limpopo, has been linked to other serious crimes in which he also allegedly molested minor girls.
Sathekge (28) appeared in the Polokwane magistrate court on Thursday where he faced multiple charges including attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, two counts of kidnapping, four counts of rape, three counts of housebreaking and 10 counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
His alleged reign of terror started in December 2024 when he would identify homes of women in Ga-Chuene and Ga-Maja villages, and would later invade them armed with a panga demanding valuable items before molesting their minor children.
In an incident that sparked public outrage, Sathekge is alleged to have threatened security guards with a firearm before he kidnapped two nurses and took them to the bush where he raped and robbed them.
National Prosecuting Authority provincial spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, said: “A thorough investigation by law enforcement linked the accused to these offences, and at the time of his arrest, he was already in police custody for an unrelated matter.”
Sathekge is expected to appear in court again on 9 April 2025. He remains in custody.
