A Limpopo man who raped and strangled to death an 8-year old girl has been sentenced to two life term imprisonment in the Polokwane High Court.
Kgopotso Mmotse Koma (29) of Mamone village in Jane Furse, Sekhukhune district, was also found not to be remorseful of his conduct. The sentences will run concurrently.
The court was told that on 8 June 2019 at Mamone village, the girl, Pompo Hope Seponye, was playing at home when Koma sent her to a local tuckshop to buy him cigarettes. After a while he followed her to the shop.
He met her on the way back, but took her to his nearby friend’s house where he raped and strangled her to death. He then fled the scene.
Late that day, her concerned parents and members of the community launched a search and they found her in the house lying on the bed – half naked and dead.
Koma was arrested a few days later.
State prosecutor, Rendani Mulaudzi, submitted that Koma took advantage of the girl’s vulnerability and that he was not remorseful of his conduct.
She further submitted that the family of the girl had to relocate to another province as they lived in fear that a similar incident could recur.
