Man sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for fatal assault on girlfriend he suspected of cheating

A 46-year old Limpopo man who assaulted his girlfriend to death with a wooden stick on suspicion she was having an affair with someone else was handed an 18 year jail term in the Thohoyandou High Court on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said the court found that Tendani Lidzhade assaulted the girlfriend on New Year’s Day in 2019 at Maangani village in the Nzhelele area.

He then carried the body in his vehicle’s backseat and drove to a household in Matanda village where he requested water which he poured over the victim.

“His suspicious movements led the community member to alert the police. They swiftly responded, and the victim was found and certified dead. He was placed under arrest for murder,” Ledwaba said.

The accused was granted R1000 bail until he was found guilty and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.
