ANC gave DA and other parties in the GNU a penalty and they scored it
If what Gayton McKenzie said about the postponement of budget speech is true, then we are witnessing much wider cracks within the ANC.
Some senior ANC leaders, it is alleged, did not agree with the budget in the form it was by yesterday. Seemingly, even the advice by the SARS Commissioner was rejected.
What the ANC did not realise was the emotional capital attached to the 2% increase on VAT and how devastating it would be to the already struggling poor and vulnerable.
This the GNU partners took advantage of and scored a very important penalty awarded to them!
In the end, the budget speech is postponed and in many ways, records a victory for the GNU partners and leaves the ANC politically bruised.
The interpretation by the ordinary electorate is that days where the ANC did as it wished are over. What is of interest is how this feeling will translate itself at the ballot.
